Scared to Grow your Cake Business? Read this to help deal with the Fear

Today I actually want to talk about FEAR and what to do when you experience a lot of fear trying to grow your cake business. You know - when you're trying to take your cake business to the next level, but you're feeling scared, doubtful, worried that you just don't have what it takes to really have the type of cake business that you want.

The Truth About Fear in Your Cake Business Journey

Here's something most business coaches won't tell you upfront: fear doesn't just magically disappear once you reach a certain level of success. I've experienced fear at EVERY stage of my cake business journey, and guess what? I still experience it today.

The difference isn't that successful cake designers don't feel fear – it's that they've learned to dance with it instead of letting it paralyze them.

When Anxiety Takes Over

Let me tell you this - I've experienced anxiety and fear over and over and over again throughout my entire cake journey. Those moments when your heart races before delivering a wedding cake, when you feel that knot in your stomach before quoting your new premium prices, when you can't sleep the night before a big consultation - I've been there!

Think about it - if you weren't pushing yourself to new heights in your cake business, you wouldn't feel anxious at all. You'd be comfortable. And comfort might feel nice, but it's also where cake businesses plateau and stay stuck charging the same old prices year after year.

When anxiety shows up, take a deep breath. Place your hand on your heart. Remind yourself: "This feeling means I'm growing. This feeling means I'm becoming the cake designer I'm meant to be." Sometimes I even say out loud, "Thank you, anxiety, for showing me that I care deeply about my craft and my business." It sounds weird, but honestly, it works!

Why You Need to Face Your Fears Head-On

The first big lesson I learned (the hard way, trust me!) is that you actually need to face your fears directly. Whatever you don't face in your life will follow you wherever you go until you actually confront your demons.

I spent years running from certain experiences and situations in my business until they snowballed into massive problems that I could no longer ignore. Only then was I forced to face what was really going on in my mind.

Step 1: Name Your Fears

So let's start with an exercise that might feel uncomfortable but is absolutely necessary. Grab a piece of paper and write down EXACTLY what you're fearing in your cake business right now:

  • Are you afraid you're not good enough?

  • Do you worry you don't have what it takes to level up?

  • Are you scared to charge premium prices because someone else already does that in your area?

  • Do you doubt anyone will want to work with YOU specifically?

Be brutally honest with yourself about what's really holding you back. Getting these fears out of your head and onto paper is the first step to overcoming them.

Step 2: Understand That Fear Is Part of the Journey

Once you've named your fears, it's important to understand that experiencing fear is completely normal at EVERY stage of business growth. As you evolve as a cake designer and business owner, you'll simply face different types of fear.

When I first started my cake business, my fears sounded like:

  • "I can't quit my job to go to school and learn cake design."

  • "There are already so many cake designers in my area – who's going to order from ME?"

  • "I've already failed at cake businesses twice – why would this time be any different?"

Then when I started growing and wanted to charge premium prices, my fears transformed into:

  • "Who am I to charge $12 per slice?"

  • "I can't ask $2,000 for a wedding cake!"

  • "I don't have enough clients yet – I need to lower my prices to build my reputation first."

And even as I continued growing, guess what? New fears emerged!

The key insight is recognizing that fear isn't a sign you're doing something wrong – it's actually evidence that you're pushing yourself to grow. Fear is just your brain's way of trying to keep you safe and maintain the status quo. It's not trying to hurt you; it's just misguided protection.

Step 3: Release Your Fears Intentionally

Once you understand that your fears are just clouds temporarily blocking your view of the amazing cake business you're meant to have, it's time to actively release them.

I personally use several techniques to clear my fears:

  1. Forgiveness work: I forgive myself for believing the limiting stories my mind creates.

  2. EFT tapping: This is a powerful technique where you literally tap certain points on your body while addressing your fears. If you're interested in learning more about this, let me know in the comments, and I can create a whole video on it!

  3. Physical release rituals: Sometimes I'll rip up the paper where I wrote my fears, burn it, or take it outside as part of a releasing ritual. The physical act of destroying the paper can be incredibly cathartic.

The key is getting the fear OUT of your system so you're not living with it constantly. And this isn't a one-time process! Depending on what's happening in my business, I might need to do this weekly or even daily. Fear clearing has become a regular practice that allows me to focus on producing great results and showing up as the cake business owner I'm meant to be.

Dancing With Your Fears

Rather than trying to eliminate fear completely (which isn't realistic), I've learned to dance with my fears. I acknowledge them when they appear, but I don't let them drive my decisions.

Remember: part of you is trying to keep you safe by staying exactly where you are. But there's another part of you that wants to grow, charge more, book more clients, and reach your full potential. Choose to trust THAT version of yourself instead of the fearful one.

Every time fear shows up saying, "You can't charge that much" or "No one will hire you at those prices," recognize it as a sign that you're pushing your boundaries and growing. Then take a deep breath and step forward anyway.

And if you're looking for more resources to help you build an amazing cake business, charge premium prices, and maintain a fully booked calendar, I've created a comprehensive Cake Business Library filled with ebooks, templates, guides, and so much more. Your Cake Business Journey Continues

Understanding and working with fear is going to be a continuous journey throughout your entire entrepreneurial life. Instead of seeing fear as your enemy, recognize it as a companion that shows up whenever you're about to level up.

The most successful cake designers aren't the ones with no fear – they're the ones who have learned to work with their fear instead of being paralyzed by it.

Remember, fear happens, it's part of life, and it's just really here to keep you exactly where you are. Part of you is just trying to keep you safe, but you need to understand that there's another part of you that wants you to grow, charge more, book more cake clients, really take yourself to the next level. Trust in THAT version instead of trusting in your fears!

Easy mindset tip to book more cake orders at your Consultations

The Power of Visualization in Your Cake Business

Can you use your mind to book more cake orders on the spot?

Can you really use your mind to create the business you want without taking more action and spending more money?

Of course you can.

Except we really don’t talk about how we can do that online.

It’s always talk on working harder, working longer hours, giving discounts, stay up until 2 am. Basically, selling your soul to grow your cake business.

And that my dear friend, never works.

I'm sharing a powerful tip that has consistently worked wonders for me in my business, Aspen Charm Cakes and Pastries. This technique has helped me book more cake orders and increase my revenue, and I'm confident it will do the same for you.

And if you're looking for more resources to help you build an amazing cake business, charge premium prices, and maintain a fully booked calendar, I've created a comprehensive Cake Business Library filled with ebooks, templates, guides, and so much more. The Magic of Mental Rehearsal

The mindset technique I'm talking about is simple yet profound: see yourself charging the customer for their cake order.

This visualization practice taps into the law of attraction principles by mentally rehearsing the successful completion of a cake consultation. I've used this technique consistently throughout my cake business journey, and it has become a cornerstone of my success strategy.

The key is to visualize the end result you want to create. For cake business owners, that end result is having paid customers in your calendar, growing your business with more orders, and increasing your revenue stream.

How to Practice This Visualization Technique

Here's how I implement this powerful practice before every cake consultation:

  1. Find a quiet moment before meeting with a potential customer

  2. Close your eyes and create a detailed mental image

  3. See yourself welcoming the customer with confidence and enthusiasm

  4. Visualize the entire payment process - opening your Square app, entering the 50% deposit amount, swiping their credit card

  5. Feel the excitement and satisfaction when the payment goes through

  6. Imagine yourself confirming the details and adding the order to your calendar

The crucial element that makes this visualization effective is not just seeing these actions in your mind but feeling the positive emotions associated with them. Feel the excitement, the sense of accomplishment, and the confidence that comes with successfully booking another client.

Why This Technique Works

This visualization practice works on multiple levels:

  • It programs your subconscious mind for success

  • It reduces anxiety about asking for payment

  • It helps you act with more confidence during consultations

  • It aligns your energy with your desired outcome

  • It keeps you focused on your business goals

The beauty of this technique is that it only takes a few minutes of your time, but the impact on your business can be substantial. I've witnessed firsthand how this simple mindset shift has helped me close more sales and grow my cake business steadily over time.

Integrating Visualization Into Your Business Routine

Make this visualization a regular part of your pre-consultation routine. Just as you prepare your portfolio and samples, prepare your mind for success. The more you practice, the more natural and effective it becomes.

I recommend doing this visualization:

  • The night before a consultation

  • The morning of your meeting

  • A few minutes before the client arrives

Consistency is key. The more you reinforce this mental pattern, the more it becomes your default approach to consultations.

Success Requires Action

Getting excited about these concepts is great, but transformation happens through implementation. The cake designers who have doubled their orders and now have fully-booked calendars are the ones who have taken consistent action in their businesses.

I've seen cake artists completely revolutionize their businesses using these principles. They've gone from struggling to find clients to having to create waiting lists. The difference is in the mindset and the actions that follow.

Remember, your success is just a visualization away. Start seeing it, feeling it, and then achieving it.
