How to find Funds to grow your Cake Business

I think I had maybe $1000 or so in my saving account.

And I decided I was going to quit my working for Apple, move to Toronto to study cake design, come back and start my cake business as a full-time entrepreneur.

Annnnd….I needed about $35,000 to do so.

Welp, it was time to put my thinking cap on and figure out how I was going to fund my dreams because I DID NOT have $35,000 sitting around.

Everyone thinks are kind-of nuts when you are wanting to spend a ton of money to get your business off of the ground, with no proven way you will be a success as an entrepreneur.

And a lot of close people in my life thought I was crazy for going after my dreams.

After investing over $100,000 total in being an entrepreneur over the past 5 years, I do know that it takes money to make money. Additionally, I believe if you MUST need money to make something happen, you will find a way no matter what.

If you are wondering how to take your cake business to the next level and need some serious dough to make it happen, here are a few ideas to consider to fund your business to catapult your success!

First, be 100% okay with getting outside sources to fund your business.

A lot of people may not have $35,000 - $100,000 laying around to fund a business. But that doesn’t mean you cannot find the money to help fund your cake business and get it off the ground. Borrowing money is 100% normal to get your business off the ground.

Once you wrap your head around knowing that it’s normal and very common, you start to allow different ideas for how you can fund your business.

Whether, credit cards, business loans, personal bank loans, friend/family loan, crowd funding…..these are ways where you can easily make the money instead of relying on selling your cakes to finally invest in your business.

Borrowing money helps you build your dreams while becoming business owner you need to become who has a successful business you really want.

Please note, be responsible if you decide to borrow money! This post is not intended to guide you to go into credit card debt and be irresponsible with credit.

Next, How much do you really want the money?

Some designers are interested in building their business while others are 100% committed to growing their business.

There’s a difference.

Earlier this week, I asked in my Facebook Group, join here, if they had $1000 to fund their business, what would you spend it on? And tons of designers wrote their responses. From paying off credit card debt, investing in cake design courses, paying for cake design equipment to improve cake production, the responses were endless.

Truthfully, you can manifest $1000 right away, check out this article about how to manifest money. If you really wanted it badly enough, when you have the right money mindset, and belief in place to allow the money to come to you.

Ever notice how you just NEED to buy something new for your cake business, or NEED a new pair of shoes, or NEED to buy something for your children to help them succeed?

Regardless of what it is, when you have a burning desire to pay for anything in your cake business, the money will show up.

If not, the excuses that come up are blocking the money from coming in.

Lastly, Have a plan for the money you want.

One of the biggest mistakes I’ve made was foolishly spending my money on unnecessary cake crap that is collecting dust in an old Trader Joes bag sitting in my garage.

When growing your business, wisely choose how you will spend your money and how the specific tools and equipment you are buying will increase productivity, help you manage your business better, make more money, take your cake business to the next level.

Cute cupcake liners, 200+ sugar cookie cutters, random character cake pans, 101 super cute sprinkles will not help make you more money.

They just take up more space in your already too tight cake storage situation.

Be extremely clear on your purchases and your money will go further.

When I made up my mind I was going to make my dreams my reality, the money pretty much flowed into my life because I was determined to make my business work.

Put your dreams FIRST, be 100% committed, and the money will show up.

Trust me, it works every single time.

Lastly, as you decide to grow your cake business and explore how to financially make it happen, be open to the many ways you can receive the money and have a plan for how you will use the money.

I’d love to hear from you!

How did you fund getting your cake business off the ground? Did you already have the money saved?

Did you pay for things as you booked more cake orders?

Jealous of that Cake Designer? How to Handle

The Jealousy That Sparked My Cake Business Revolution

About 3 months ago, I was doing my usual Facebook scrolling when I stumbled upon a post that, for some crazy reason, triggered an intense wave of jealousy toward another cake designer. Now, I am 100% aware that there will always be cake designers more talented than me, which I am perfectly okay with. That doesn't bother me at all. I have bigger fish to fry.

This situation was different—it was about a business milestone they had achieved while that same goal was still sitting untouched on my list, collecting dust.

The Jealousy Investigation

So I decided to investigate why I was jealous of this cake designer. The answer hit me like a ton of bricks: they had taken action on their goal and made it a reality. Meanwhile, I hadn't done ANYTHING to make it happen for myself. Not a single thing. Not even baby steps.

And that's when the excuses started flooding in. You know the ones—those clever little stories we tell ourselves to justify our inaction. I realized I had an entire catalog of reasons why I couldn't achieve what this other cake designer had:

  1. "It wasn't the right time yet." (But when would it be?)

  2. "I don't have the money." (Even though I hadn't seriously looked into what it would cost)

  3. "I have too much on my plate." (Yet somehow I found time for hours of social media)

The truth? These were convenient shields protecting me from the discomfort of pushing beyond my comfort zone.

The Upside of Jealousy

Here's something I've come to realize: being jealous is actually healthy for your personal development. Yes, you read that right! Jealousy usually uncovers what area you're ignoring within yourself that another cake designer fully owns and embraces. When you feel that twinge of envy, you're witnessing exactly what you are fully capable of achieving, yet you're actively choosing NOT to go for it.

Think about it. There are tons of cake designers who've decided to stop charging peanuts for their creations and are now freely and easily commanding $1000+ (yes, thousands!) for their cakes. They didn't start out charging those prices—they made a decision and took action.

There are tons of cake designers who once created some pretty crappy cakes and now make the most breathtaking, jaw-dropping confections you've ever seen. They didn't transform overnight—they committed to improvement and put in the work.

There are tons of cake designers who run booming, successful businesses after YEARS of struggling financially to make ends meet. Their success wasn't handed to them—they persisted when others would have given up.

Still struggling to book more customers and charge the prices you deserve for your cakes? I have just the thing for you. The Uncomfortable Question

So here's the uncomfortable question I had to ask myself, and now I'm asking you: If you know you have excuses for why you haven't experienced the success you've wanted, how bad do you really want your life and business to change?

Be honest with yourself. Are your excuses more important than your dreams? Are your fears more powerful than your ambitions?

The cake business you keep dreaming about and working towards is 100% within your reach, but—and this is a big but—it will require you to become a different person to achieve a different level of success. You can't keep doing the same things and expect different results. That's the definition of insanity, right?

Taking Them Off The Pedestal

When you realize that cake designers who have the success you want aren't supernatural beings with magical powers—they're regular people who decided to take massive action—you take them off the pedestal and start hustling for what's rightfully yours.

No one is more talented than you, or has more of what it takes to win in this cake world. Let me say that again:

NO ONE has more of what it takes than you do. The only difference between you and them is the action they've taken and the mindset they've cultivated.

You are capable of having the business you want, charging the prices you want, and building the business of your dreams. This isn't motivational fluff—it's the truth. But knowing it and living it are two very different things.

And if you're looking for more resources to help you build an amazing cake business, charge premium prices, and maintain a fully booked calendar, I've created a comprehensive Cake Business Library filled with ebooks, templates, guides, and so much more. You can get access to all these resources by clicking the link below.

The Time For Action Is Now

Is now the time to go after it? Only you can answer that. But I will tell you this: there will never be a perfect time. There will always be reasons to wait, to hesitate, to procrastinate.

Stop spoon-feeding yourself reasons why you don't have the business you want. Those excuses might taste sweet going down, but they're slowly poisoning your potential.

When was the last time you took a significant risk in your business? When was the last time you felt genuinely uncomfortable because you were pushing your boundaries? If it's been a while, that might be why you're stuck.

The Decision Point

We all reach crossroads in our business journeys—moments where we must decide whether to continue on the safe, familiar path or venture into unknown territory with the potential for exponential growth. I've reached that point numerous times, and each leap of faith has paid dividends far beyond what playing it safe could have provided.

Sometimes, the scariest steps lead to the most beautiful destinations. Sometimes, the most challenging conversations—like raising your prices or setting boundaries with difficult clients—lead to the most liberating outcomes.

My Promise To You

When you are 100% ready to leave your excuses in the dust and to exponentially grow your cake business to new heights, I am here to help you achieve that. Not as someone who has it all figured out, but as someone who understands the struggle, who's faced the same fears, and who's taken the leap anyway.

The question isn't whether you're capable—you absolutely are. The question is whether you're ready to stop wishing and start doing. Whether you're prepared to transform jealousy into inspiration and excuses into action steps.

Your dream cake business is waiting. The only thing standing between you and it is your willingness to step out of your comfort zone and into your greatness.

What will you choose?
