Focus on the Cake Business You Want - Not Currently Have

Mindset Monday: Transform Your Cake Business by Focusing on Your Vision

Your Mindset Shapes Your Business Reality

Your entire business is dictated by the mindset you hold within yourself. If you love the Law of Attraction like I do, you'll appreciate how powerful this concept can be when applied to your cake business and life in general.

The key transformation happens when you focus on the cake business you want versus the cake business you currently have.

The Power of Focusing on What You Want

Let me emphasize this crucial point: your attention must be on what you WANT, not what you currently have. This is where most cake business owners go wrong. They spend their days obsessing over low bank balances, insufficient orders, and what's not working.

Here's the truth: what you focus on expands. When you constantly think about your struggles, you're actually reinforcing those very circumstances.

Instead, direct your energy toward your dream clients, your ideal pricing structure, your perfect work schedule, and the beautiful creations you want to be known for. See yourself receiving glowing testimonials and industry recognition. Feel the satisfaction of a profitable business that brings you joy.

This isn't about denying reality—it's about shifting your dominant thoughts toward your destination. When you do this consistently, your subconscious mind begins working with you rather than against you, helping you spot opportunities that align with your vision and take inspired action.

Taking Aligned Action Toward Your Vision

Vision without action is just a dream. While focusing on what you want is essential, you must pair it with consistent, aligned action that moves you toward that vision.

What does aligned action look like? It's making decisions today as if you're already running your dream cake business. It's pricing your work according to your worth, not your fear. It's approaching potential clients and collaborators with confidence because you know the value you bring.

Start by breaking down your vision into tangible steps:

  • If you want high-end clients, where do these clients gather? What publications do they read? How can you position yourself there?

  • If you want to create more artistic designs, invest time in developing those skills and showcasing them, even if no one's ordering them yet

  • If you want industry recognition, submit your work to publications and competitions as if you already belong there

The key is that these actions come from a place of confidence and alignment with your vision—not from desperation or lack. When you take action from the mindset of already having what you want, you magnetize those opportunities to you.

Remember: consistent small steps in alignment with your vision are far more powerful than sporadic, fear-based hustle that leads to burnout.

Awareness vs. Focus

It's important to be aware of your current results—knowing your bank account balance or how many cake orders you have coming in gives you a starting point. But here's the critical shift: your dominant thoughts need to be focused on what you want your cake business to become.

Ask yourself:

  • What type of cake business do I truly want?

  • What designs do I want to create?

  • What clients do I want to work with?

  • Which industry experts do I want referring business to me?

By focusing on your desired outcome rather than your present situation, you naturally create actions, behaviors, and habits that align with that vision. This alignment is what transforms your business and brings you closer to your goals.

The Power of Visualization

Does this take power and focus? Absolutely! But this is the key that will transform your cake business.

If you're just trying to increase your marketing, advertising, or bank account while focusing only on what's currently happening in your business, you'll stay stuck. That path leads to frustration, desperation, and wondering why you can't seem to move forward.

Instead, fall in love with your vision. Visualize it. Pray on it. Truly believe and know that cake business is for you.

Ready to Change your FOCUS?

The journey to transform your cake business begins in your mind. By deliberately focusing on what you want rather than what you have, you set powerful forces in motion. This isn't just positive thinking—it's strategic mental positioning that influences every decision you make.

When you combine clear vision with aligned action, transformation isn't just possible—it's inevitable. The cake business of your dreams isn't some far-off fantasy; it's a reality waiting for you to step into it.

Remember that this process takes patience and consistency. There will be days when it's challenging to maintain your focus on what you want. On those days, be gentle with yourself, reset, and return to your vision.

Each time you redirect your thoughts from current circumstances to desired outcomes, you strengthen your manifestation muscles.

Your dream cake business is already yours in the energetic realm—now it's simply a matter of allowing it to materialize in the physical world through your focused thoughts and aligned actions.

What to Wear to Cake Consultations: Expressing Your Authentic Self

What to Wear to Cake Consultations: Expressing Your Authentic Self

When it comes to wanting to give the best first impression to your customers at your cake consultation, the big question is, what should I wear?

The question seems so trivial but I can see why it’s very important to you. This seems to be particularly important for designers who are:

  • Looking to grow their business and make their mark in their local area

  • Taking their business more seriously

  • Transitioning from budget customers to high-end clients

If you're currently attracting budget customers but want to bring in those premium clients, you definitely need to make some changes in your business – and your attire can play a significant role in that transition.

My Personal Philosophy on Cake Consultation Attire

Here's my big take: When you start your own business, you have full freedom to conduct it in any way that makes you feel good, authentic, and in your element. You don't have to follow rules that someone else set if they don't feel right for you.

I've noticed that some cake designers feel they should wear a chef's jacket to appear more professional or to establish credibility (especially if they haven't gone to culinary school – and yes, there's a whole controversy around that!).

Others prefer branded t-shirts with their logo, feeling that represents their business better.

My advice? Wear what makes you feel your absolute best – what makes you feel confident and ready to design amazing cakes for your customers. That's the outfit you should choose for your consultations.

If a chef's jacket with your beautiful logo makes you feel proud and professional, go for it! But don't wear one just because you think you're "supposed to." That's what I really want to convey here – wear clothes that make you feel great and that express who you are as an entrepreneur.

My Personal Style for Cake Consultations

For me personally, I like wearing something that's a step up from everyday casual – what I'd call a "creative, sassy business casual" outfit. I'm a creative dresser in general, and I like to bring that energy into my cake consultations.

Some days I might wear a hot pink blazer with a nice t-shirt and some cool shoes. Other days, I might go all-black with gold accessories. I feel my best when I'm expressing myself through my clothes – wearing things I'm comfortable in, just slightly elevated, like what I'd wear to a networking event as a creative entrepreneur.

I encourage you to think about it this way too. Don't feel like you have to follow a specific dress code to "get it right." If something in your cake business doesn't feel true to you, try something else! Do what feels authentic and aligned with your personal brand.

And if you're looking for more resources to help you build an amazing cake business, charge premium prices, and maintain a fully booked calendar, I've created a comprehensive Cake Business Library filled with ebooks, templates, guides, and so much more. Authenticity Attracts Your Ideal Clients

When you wear something that makes you feel confident – whether that's a polo with your company logo, a chef's jacket, or a creative outfit that expresses your personality – you're going to exude that confidence during your consultations. And clients will feel it too!

The beautiful thing about being true to yourself in your business is that you'll attract people who appreciate and value that authenticity. You'll connect with clients who want to work with YOU specifically, because of who you are and how you express yourself. These are the clients who will become your biggest fans and refer you to others.

What Not to Wear to Cake Consultations

While I'm all about personal expression, there are a few things to consider avoiding:

  1. Overly casual attire - Even if your style is relaxed, avoid anything that looks sloppy or like you just rolled out of bed. Remember, this is still a business meeting!

  2. Impractical clothing - You may need to move around, show cake samples, or demonstrate something during your consultation. Make sure your outfit allows for comfortable movement.

  3. Strong perfumes or scents - When you're discussing cake flavors, you don't want competing aromas distracting your clients.

  4. Anything that makes you feel uncomfortable - If you're constantly adjusting your clothes or feeling self-conscious, you won't be able to focus on your client and their needs.

Elevating Your Look for Different Types of Clients

If you're transitioning from budget to high-end clients, you might want to gradually elevate your consultation wardrobe. Here are some ideas:

  • For wedding consultations: Consider a slightly more polished look, especially if you're meeting at upscale venues or bridal salons.

  • For corporate clients: A more business-appropriate outfit might help establish credibility, while still maintaining your creative flair.

  • For children's birthday cake clients: A more playful, approachable look might help parents and kids feel comfortable with you.

The key is to maintain your authentic style while adapting appropriately to the context.

Branding Through Your Attire

Your clothing can actually be part of your brand identity! Consider:

  • Incorporating your brand colors into your outfits

  • Wearing a signature piece that becomes part of your professional identity

  • Using branded accessories like pins, scarves, or jewelry with your logo

  • Creating custom aprons or jackets if you do live demonstrations

This can create a cohesive experience from your social media to your in-person consultations.

Final Thoughts: Confidence is Your Best Accessory

At the end of the day, what matters most is how you feel in your consultation outfit. When you feel good, you look good, and you'll exude the confidence that clients respond to. That confidence will help you communicate the value of your work and justify those premium prices.

So, what do you wear to your cake consultations? Do you feel good in whatever you're wearing for your business meetings?

I'd love to know! This topic always generates interesting conversations, and I'm curious about your approach.
